Peer Review Process

Peer-Review Policy

The biannual journal Tarikhnameh-ye Enghelab employs a double-blind peer-review process for the evaluation of submitted manuscripts. This means that the identities of authors and reviewers remain concealed from one another throughout the peer-review process.

From the receipt of a manuscript to its final acceptance and publication, the following stages are completed in sequence.

A. Preliminary Assessment

After an author submits a manuscript through the journal’s online submission system, the manuscript is initially examined by the journal’s staff for compliance with the manuscript preparation guidelines. This assessment is completed within a maximum of one week.

To expedite the peer-review process, authors are strongly advised to read the Instructions for Authors carefully before submitting their manuscripts and to prepare and submit their manuscripts in strict accordance with the formatting and submission guidelines available on the journal’s website.

If the manuscript passes the initial screening, it proceeds to a second preliminary assessment, during which its content quality and the relevance of its subject matter to the journal’s scope are evaluated. This stage usually takes one week.

B. Manuscript Peer Review

Following successful completion of the second preliminary assessment, the manuscript is sent to two expert reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area.

The peer-review process is conducted according to the following rules:

  1. If both reviewers reject the manuscript, it will be rejected.
  2. If one reviewer recommends major revisions and the other rejects the manuscript, the manuscript will be rejected.
  3. If both reviewers recommend major revisions, the manuscript will be returned to the author for revision.
  4. If one reviewer recommends minor revisions and the other rejects the manuscript, the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer. The final decision will then be made in accordance with the third reviewer’s recommendation and the procedures outlined in Items 1 and 2 above.
  5. After the author has revised and resubmitted the manuscript in response to the reviewers’ comments, the revised manuscript will be sent to one of the reviewers for a comparative assessment of the revisions.

Once a decision has been reached regarding the manuscript, it will be assigned to one of the following categories:

  • Rejected: Both reviewers recommend rejection.
  • Major revisions required: Both reviewers recommend major revisions, and the manuscript is returned to the author for revision.
  • Further review required: One reviewer recommends major revisions while the other rejects the manuscript. In this case, the manuscript is referred to a third reviewer, and the decision is made in accordance with the third reviewer’s recommendation and the procedures specified in Items 1 and 2 above.

This stage generally takes between one and three months.

C. Manuscript Revision

At this stage, the author or authors must address the reviewers’ comments and submit the revised manuscript within a maximum of 15 days from the date of receiving the manuscript and the reviewers’ comments. Alternatively, authors must communicate their reasons for considering particular revisions unnecessary through the journal’s online submission system.

The revision process may involve two or three rounds of exchanges between the authors and the editorial team. This process may continue until the manuscript’s content is deemed satisfactory by the journal’s editors.

Once the revisions have been approved by the editors, the manuscript will be referred to the author for payment of the applicable acceptance and publication fees.

D. Final Acceptance

Once the reviewers’ required revisions have been satisfactorily completed, or sufficient justification has been provided for not making the requested changes, and the acceptance and publication fees have been paid, the manuscript will be scheduled for publication.

The corresponding author will then receive an official written notification confirming the manuscript’s final acceptance and forthcoming publication.
