Book is a form of effective media and cultural product that has considerably evolved and spread in the modern age. Furthermore, books have played a notable role in the contemporary revolutions. Over France and Russia’s revolutions, theoretician and ideologues have informed and provoked the regime fighters by writing books categorized as the forbidden books. Iran’s Islamic revolution has also witnessed many forbidden books that had been studied, printed and distributed through an underground system by the revolutionaries. There were these books, which changed and shaped the political view and fighting methods of their readers. Through a cultural and comparative investigation, this paper is set to define the role and position of books in France, Iran and Russia’s revolutions based on the existing documents and evidence. Furthermore, this paper tries to disclose how the revolutionaries used books in favor of the revolution and how governments prevented printing, distribution and studying of these books to make barriers on the course of the revolution success, a process continued to the revolution’s emanation. Clearly, by the revolution’s success millions of issues of these books were published.
